YOo is free software. You are entitled to its source code, and this page tells you how to get it.

The licence

YOo is built on Signal, the open-source private messenger developed by Signal Messenger LLC, and is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3.

YOo is an independent project. It is not produced, sponsored, endorsed by, or affiliated with Signal Messenger LLC or the Signal Technology Foundation. “Signal” is a registered trademark of the Signal Technology Foundation. YOo runs on its own servers and does not connect to Signal's infrastructure.

Getting the source

The complete corresponding source for each released version is published for download here:

Each archive corresponds to a released version, so you can obtain the source matching the exact build you are running — the version number is in the app under Settings.

If you would rather ask, write to support@theyoo.app with source in the subject and the version you want, and we will send it to you at no charge beyond the cost of sending. That offer stands for at least three years from the date we last distributed that version, and is open to anyone, not only to people who use YOo.

What you receive

The complete corresponding source, as the licence defines it — enough to build, install and run the software, and to modify it:

• The YOo apps for iOS and Android.
• The YOo server, which is a modified version of Signal-Server.
• The build configuration and dependency versions needed to reproduce the build.

Files we changed carry notices saying that we changed them, and when.

Deployment configuration is not included, and neither are credentials of any kind. Neither is needed to build, run or modify the program — you supply your own — and publishing ours would compromise the people using this service rather than help you. Each archive carries a SOURCE-NOTICE.md setting out exactly what was left out.

If you use the service

The AGPL asks something further of anyone who runs modified software over a network. If you interact with our servers — which you do whenever you use YOo — you are entitled to the source of the modified server software running them. That is the same source described above, available on the same terms, at no charge.
