Questions
The things people ask most, answered plainly. If yours is not here, write to us.
Do I need WhatsApp to use YOo?
You need it once, to sign up. Your verification code arrives as a WhatsApp message on the number you register. After that WhatsApp plays no part — YOo works on its own.
A number without WhatsApp cannot register. There is no SMS fallback.
My code did not arrive.
Check that WhatsApp is working on exactly the number you typed, including the country code. Then wait — you can request another code after 60 seconds, and the app shows the countdown.
You can request five codes for one number in 24 hours. After that you will need to wait. If nothing arrives at all, write to support@theyoo.app.
I lost my phone. Can I get my messages back?
No. This is the most important answer on this page.
YOo keeps no copy of your messages and has no PIN or backup to restore from. Your conversations live on your device and nowhere else. If the device is gone, so are they.
You can register again on a new phone with the same number and carry on talking to the same people — but the history does not come with you. If your message history matters to you, keep a second device linked.
Can I use YOo on more than one device?
Yes. Link a second device from the settings in the app. Linked devices stay in sync, and each one holds its own copy of your conversations.
How do I block or report someone?
Open the conversation, then use the block option. Blocking is immediate — their messages and calls stop reaching you. From the same place you can report them to us, which sends us the material you are reporting so we can act on it. We respond to reports within 24 hours.
What can you actually see?
Not the content of your messages, files or calls — those are end-to-end encrypted and we do not hold the keys. We can see that an account exists for a phone number, that it connected, and when. Our servers also record the IP address you connect from.
Two things people assume are private but are not: checking which of your contacts use YOo sends those numbers to our server, and signing up tells Meta that your number registered, because the code comes over WhatsApp. Both are set out in the privacy policy.
Why am I asked to prove I am a person?
To stop automated sign-ups. Without that check, someone could request codes for thousands of numbers. The check runs through Cloudflare, which sees your IP address for that moment and nothing else about you.
How do I change my phone number?
Change it in the app's settings. Your account, contacts and groups move to the new number. You will verify the new number over WhatsApp, so make sure WhatsApp works there first.
How do I delete my account?
Email support@theyoo.app with the number on the account. There is no delete button in the app yet, so this is how it is done for now — see the full steps and what deletion erases.
Is YOo really free?
Yes. There is nothing to pay for, no subscription, and no advertising. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
Which countries can use it?
Any international phone number with a country code can register, provided it has WhatsApp. The app is published in Iraq and the wider region.
